Precognition: Not so Uncommon
67What would you do if you knew the future?
Science and ESP
What Science cannot do
Precognition is also known as premonition, extra sensory perception (ESP) and future sight. The science community has a problem with the existence of these phenomenon. No replicable demonstration has ever been achieved. So no experiment could be rightly studied. Scientific investigation of ESP is complicated because it goes against established principles of science....meaning: Effect cannot go before Cause!
What Science Can do
AHa!....but there is Cognitive Bias...this is a term used to describe many observers effects in the human mind. In the instance of Evolved Mental Behavior.
Different kinds of bias...
- Hindsight Bias..........." I knew it all along!"
- Confirmation Bias.......The tendency to search info in a way to confirm one's perception.
- Self-Serving Bias.........Tendency to claim responsibility for the successes rather than the failures. They evaluate things that will benefit them.
One Man's Studies
J.W. Dunne 1927...He recorded his dreams as they occurred to him. He identified any connection to future experience with his recorded dreams. In his work, at least 10% of his dreams told of future events! He concluded that precognition dreams are common occurrences, many people have them without realizing it. That's because people don't always recall the details of the dream.
On a personal note
Several things have happened in my life that make me believe that I might have ESP. Some folks might say that it is only hind-sight, that is not how I see it. It seems too real or un-real to me to be merely hind-sight
There were three people in my life that, when I saw them for the last time, I knew in my heart that it would be our last time. I did not know how, but I sensed that they were going to die. I get a nagging feeling in my gut sometimes it's just minutes before bad news arrives. I hate being correct.
I was getting ready to go on a car trip with the family and I stopped with the preparations because something was nagging at me, I prayed on it. I believe strongly in prayer, so I followed the promptings. As I was praying, my daughter walked by the room and stayed quiet. My boyfriend was wondering why I was not yet ready and my daughter said she knew, and that I should continue with my gut feelings. Sure enough, we went on the trip and within the half hour, there on the road ahead of us, there had been an accident. The prompting to pray for someone was correct.
Sometimes, the gut feeing lasts all day until the evening when someone comes and tells me: "Oh did you hear about...?" But when I tell people about it, they will dismiss it because, naturally, the sad event already happened.
I live a normal life. I would just like to know good news ahead of time, once in a while.

God does give the gift of knowledge and spiritual sight. You may be called to tell them about Jesus Christ beforehand. In the Bible, people would put the blood of lambs on their doors, especially when they also knew beforehand that the angel of death was going to pass over. If anything, pray for these people you know are going to perish. You have this gift for a reason. I've seen things as well, and have spoken them to people and they have come to pass. Thank goodness, though, the message is that of healing brokenness in their lives in a specific way. Jesus saves and His blood keeps us from the angel of death. I hope you find this helpful. God bless you.
Wow, Tom, I looked up William Branham and my Spirit testifies he is true, praise God!
That's the right thing to do. I didn't like intercession for the very reason that I myself didn't know if I was praying for me or someone else. God confirmed one time when I felt I had betrayed the couple I was staying with, that indeed it was not I, but the woman we prayed for the night before. She called that couple the following morning to confess and ask for forgiveness. Hallelujiah!
I wish having the ability within my clairvoyance skill, to weed out the negative and always get the positive, were easily controllable. But they are not, one goes hand-in-hand and even if blessed with 'future premonition identification', it sometimes feels like a curse . . .

Great hub btw and nice to meet you
I would just caution anyone with this gift not to worship the gift or His creation (the spirits), but the Creator who gave you the gift. It takes light to see darkness, and darkness is enlightened by the light or it fears the light. Angels of the Devil and angels of God are everywhere. God loves you and has given you a gift to use for His glory.
You can train your intuition and sense of precognition to positive events as well as deaths. At one point in New Orleans, I had a knack of figuring out who was calling either a moment before the phone would ring in -- usually it was set up to my computer so they'd be logging onto my BBS. I would know if it was someone I wanted to chat, someone I was avoiding, or a new member I wanted to welcome and get to know. If I really knew the person I'd get it specifically.
This is a lot subtler than something as traumatic as a death. But it's easy to mistake panic attacks for death precognitions, if you start having them and the person doesn't die, start looking at whether you're having a case of nerves instead.
That 30-second precognition while people were logging in was useful to me. I'd know whether to stop and get on the computer or just avoid them and let them play -- the kids that liked playing the game but never posted would not be good company, but my close friends were. So it helps to have a reason and a repeated event to predict and to be paying attention to it. I noticed it happening and started scoring my "Hits" on scraps of sticky notes, with another note for "Misses" if I guessed wrong.
That really honed the process. So you can train yourself into seeing the positive as well as the negative. It's another sense, I think of it as natural to human beings, most people have a little of it but don't really learn to pay attention to it.
It can be frightening and frustrating sometimes, but, I think you possess a true gift. Embrace it! Thanks for sharing
I, too, have had this "ability" for as long as I can remember. With me, it is a very uneasy, nervous feeling that I am unable put my finger on....this lasts, sometimes for days, until I hear the tragic news about someone I care deeply for. On the other hand, if it is good news, I will feel serene and peaceful until I receive the good news.
Another great deep spiritual Man of God is Rev. George L. Pike Sr. You can find a website dedicated to him @

A minister by the name of William Branham would see a black hood over the heads of people who were about to die. You definately are in touch with something inside. Thanks for sharing.
